When communication is limited, speech therapy builds skills that can help an adult return to a more normal lifestyle or give a child a stronger foundation for learning at school. Speech Therapy services are provided for children and adults with all types of speech and language disorders including:
Speech language evaluations are conducted initially to determine the specific needs of each client. From an evaluation, goals for therapy are developed that target specific deficits. An evaluation may take place in our office setting or at home for children in the 0-5 year old population. Evaluations of young children involve conversations, playing with toys, or looking at picture books to determine works a child is understanding and using. The Speech-Language Pathologist can determine a child's developmental needs based on their use of words, ability to follow directions, responses to questions, or production of speech sounds. Once difficulties are identified, speech therapy may be scheduled on a weekly basis. Therapy may involve exercices for the tongue and lips, games to play involving words with specific error sounds, use of toys to stimulate conversation, picture books to describe or word lists to practice. materials may be provided for activities to do at home. |
